I was looking for a phone purely for calls and texts, that had the now-standard micro-USB charging port, strong battery life and a button interface. Nokia’s 105 Mobile Phone covers the most basic of needs. I say ‘most basic’ because you are only provided with one background image for the phone screen, and about five ring tones – so this is not a phone for people that may want even a little customization. I’ve managed to get at least two weeks of battery life, though this is based on mostly texting and little to no phone calls. Your mileage will likely vary. The charging time is speedy, at about 1.5-2 hours.A nice little feature is that the screen will show you how much credit you have left after each text or phone call, so it’s easier to keep track of when you next need to top up.My main complaint about this phone is the keyboard. I am not a fan of the central four directional pad with the ‘ok’ button in the middle. It is difficult to tell where one part of the pad ends and another begins and I am frequently mis-pressing. Another, more aggravating issue is the ‘Delete’ button for texts is part of the same button used to go back to the main menu, with no query from the phone as to whether you wanted to do that or not. While it doesn’t seem to outright delete your message (I find going back to the ‘Create Message’ area brings what you were writing back up again), it’s still pretty frustrating. The SIM free aspect is a relief, as it gives you the freedom to choose your phone provider. Most phone providers don’t seem to do a ‘Pay as you Go’ service now. Many of them provide services under the name of PAYG – you can buy credit to use as you like, yet you are still made to add credit monthly. As of writing this, 02 seems to be the only one who is still offering a genuine PAYG tariff which lets you have at least 6 months to use your credit.
Sarah And David’s realist reviews –
If this phone is used for a child or basic calls and texts it works ok even though it’s slow. Terrible for internet, so slow and hard work!! Invest in a better higher priced phone if you need apps and social media etc…Very basic and maybe use as a back up phone or child’s first phone. My iPhone was broken hence I purchased this.

If you’re purchasing this from outside the U.S, the “final price” at purchase isn’t the final price because the taxes and shipping fee hasn’t been applied yet (it will do so once shipped, and then you’ll see the charges in your bank account). This is not the company’s fault, and it is something Amazon should make clear to their customers. At first I was upset at the seller due to my misunderstanding, but after communicating with them, they did their best to make sure I wasn’t dissatisfied with the transaction. Before leaving a negative review, message the seller and I’m sure they’ll try to help you out, especially if you’re unsure about some of the details in their advertisement. The seller delivers on promise on what the phone comes with (although a nitpick, the battery was not near 80 percent). The screen has a noticeable scratch, which was to be expected. The delivery was quick and came next day. Mine came with freebies such as a screen protector and phone case. This product is worth the money, in my opinion.

Not a bad phone! They aren’t the best of the best but they aren’t bad either if you’re needing something that has all of your basic needs and apps. Something I’ve noticed is that the phone doesn’t have a built in app for photos, all of your photos are stored on the Google Photos app. It wasn’t that hard to set up either, so something must have changed between previous reviews and now.

What a great find. Has dual SIM capability, It makes calls, sends texts, plays music, works with bluetooth headphones, has built in FM radio even has a torch and all for less than 20 quid deliveredExpecting to struggle I got my finger nails in the joint where it was clearly labelled and hey presto , back came off with no issues what so ever. Re used Giff Gaff SIM card and SD card from old phone inserted battery and it worked perfectly first time. Pay attention to markings on SD catd holder as it pivots unilike the SIM card holders.Don’t bother with printed manual just download the .pdf from the Oakcastle websiteA lot of poeple moan about key pad tones and volume setting etc etc. well……….spend an hour exploring the menus and all these can be altered, disabled or adjusted.Plugged USB cable into laptop and easily downloaded some aditional MP3s onto the SD card without hving to take the card out. Someone said this was not possible on one review. Even loaded a photo just to see and the little screen displays it as best it can.Battery lasts a genuine 7 days on standby and had 60% when first inserted. Fully chared from empty in about an hour and it can be replaced with Nokia BC5 if it ever gets tired.Phone even has a 3 year guarantee!Minor downside maybe no predictive text and no camera but it never said that it had any so was not disappointed. Not the loudest ring tone but will adopt an MP3 instead if you want it to.Slip it in any poket and you hardly know it is there. Ideal as a back up, in the car just in case, or when the smart phone in on chargeFor such a low price I am over the moon with it. Accept its limitations and you might be as well.

For starters this is a 3 year old phone meaning it is on its last year of android updates. Do I care? No. Will you? Depends on if you are obsessed with having the latest version of the OS as the latest on this is Android 10.As for performance, I got the snapdragon version of this phone and it easily runs Genshin Impact as long as you don’t go too crazy with the graphics settings and it has run any other game that I’ve thrown at it perfectly including Minecraft, Nier Reincarnation, Honkai Impact and an open source osu! client (S Pen came in very handy here). Emulation of Nintendo Wii games via the dolphin emulator produced a playable result with only a few stutters here and there. As for the cameras, they are of a high enough quality for me as I don’t use any of the 100x zoom lenses or 8K recording that newer flagships have. I don’t really buy a phone for cameras as I only really use the camera in Snapchat.Battery life is a decent 7 hours of my typical screen on time (TikTok, a few light games, etc) meaning I can easily get through the entire day on a single charge. When gaming on it, the battery lasts and average of 3-4 running Genshin and around 5-6 hours in Nier. If you do find yourself low on power, a 15 watt fast charger is included meaning you can go from 20% to 50% in around 25-30 minutes. As for storage the 128GB isn’t quite enough for me as Genshin uses over 30GB now but the phone also includes a Micro SD Card slot which means you can drop in a 512GB card and have more than enough space for everything you’d ever need on this phone.Lastly the unlock methods are fingerprints or iris scanning (similar to face id). I have both set up but have found the fingerprint scanner to be faster and more reliable.I’ve had my Note 9 for nearly a year now and it still serves me well to this day. I highly recommend this phone for anyone that is looking for a bargain as I was able to nab mine for only £250 and it still feels just as high quality and responsive as any other flagship from Samsung.

It’s a cheap android phone, but slow and clunky and the branded software is a painfully slow start up. But, for the money it works fine.

This phone does everything apart from being able to make a phone calls! I brought it a while ago for daughters emergency phone. It lets you put in contacts but when you put sim card in,it will not recognise card for sim slot 1 it recognises sim slot 2, but you cannot even get dialling tone! It’s not a working phone.

This is my second Blu phone. I don’t think their screens are quite as robust as other phones, as the last one cracked in a million pieces when it fail… the second time. So I decided to go with a Samsung in between. BIG MISTAKE! I thought it was just me, but my two techy sons both commented about never buying a Samsung again. They do their own proprietary stuff so that if you are used to standard android interface… it will drive you crazy. Both Blu Phones and the Samsung were dual sims… which is really handy to have the business calls come in on a separate number. The Samsung stunk at dual sim. The one sim was always lower bars than the other sim… even though through the same provider and tower. This new Blu Phone is performing flawlessly. I don’t need fancy cameras or some of the other gadgets supposedly on the expensive phones. In fact, the most used app on this phone is…. the phone!

Bought for the purpose of taking a smartphone abroad to my parents homeland so they can have the benefit of a decent mobile whilst visiting. This phone does the job well as it’s fast enough and has enough battery power to meet the demands placed on it. It handles most of the apps we’ll use efficiently. Worthwhile investment which I’m glad was made; the purchase on Amazon was effortless as ever.

Absolutely wonderful phone and excellent condition, however I received a USA version and have an annoying notice every power on off and top of screen saying it’s not a Verizon Sim card. Seems small but is very annoying. Cannot even disable or silence the notification makes it even worse. Other than that great products, advertising says Canada version and clearly is not.

Item arrived on time, I love the size & it’s reasonably priced for a dual sim unlocked phone. However, I noticed that the global time feature does not work & the battery drains fast, so it might be a good idea to include an extra battery in your purchase or hopefully the manufacturer will consider selling it w/ a spare battery.Calls kept going to voicemail instead of ringing. I returned the phone for replacement of the same. If the replacement has the same defects, then I will have to return it & look for another unlocked dual sim smartphone & change my rating.I’m hoping that it’s just the one I got that’s defective.Replacement arrived much earlier than originally stated. The global time on the replacement works this time, however, it still keeps on going to Voicemail. If I’m unable to make this ring w/ the help of IT support, this phone is going back again bec. it’s important not to miss a call especially when it’s important.

Phone works well on 5g, no problems. Was delivered on time

Was going to cancel this product. But when it arrived, decided to keep it. Nice phone, cheap and easy to use. Was a little disappointed with the delivery. Wasn’t informed about it being delivered very early and was just shuffed through my letter box. Thank goodness it wasn’t damaged. This is way I have only given 3 stars. Nothing to do with phone. The phone is cute. Cheap and cheerful

It’s always a gamble buying refurbished phones, and each time I get lucky with my purchase, I thank my good luck. This time was no exception. The phone came with a 96% battery, not a scratch or mark on it anywhere, with a tempered glass screen protector already installed AND it works perfectly.Charges fine, makes and receives calls fine, speakers work and no shenanigans with any buttons, and the screen has no sensitivity issues whatsoever. The price was right to replace my aging, original SE (which was also refurbished), and I’m glad I took the chance with this seller. My only gripe (and it was a very small one) was that it maybe could have been packaged a bit better. The box was quite large, the phone was wrapped in a foam-type bag with the charger and cable in another bag, secured with an elastic to the phone. It was rattling around in the box pretty hard, but sustained no damage, thankfully. I can see if it had been handled poorly, it might have been a different story upon opening it… but that’s the only issue I have.

Great phone, big screen, pretty fast, and for the low price is a great value. It came in a box (but was resealed with a motorola sticker). Its from a US carrier, and has some software installed that you cant remove, but not a big deal. Disable the download manager for the carrier, or it will keep downloading software. Even though the phone was pretty much perfect, and didnt have a scratch, the original charging block was removed and replaced with a samsung “fast” charger that was super slow. But for the price, its still a great deal!
Amazon Customer –
Battery health is at 87%. No scratches on the phone. Camera and overall phone speediness is definitely a step up from the iPhone 7. My iPhone 7 case fits on this phone. I would say it’s definitely worth the money, and it’s a good deal!
Gallowglass –
This is a very small & light, old-school voice & text messaging mobile phone with a physical keypad that is reasonably easy to use and a small colour screen without, of course, touch support or Internet access. It comes at a low price which makes it ideal for out-and-about activities or as a simple backup or traveller’s emergency phone.Inserting a nano SIM was a bit fiddly – the phone comes with one pair of plastic nano-to-micro and micro-to-standard adapter plates but I managed to bend the larger of the two trying to insert, although not fatally. I finally canabalized the bits still attached to the full-credit-card-sized card that came with one of my SIMs to get it in.The whole back and surround comes off, pulling from the bottom, to get to the two SIM and one SD card slots under the removable battery. It booted up first time while still charging, connected and installed the giffgaff phonebook entries for the voicemail, balance update etc. automatically. Making and receiving calls worked immediately with the already-activated SIM I’m using. The microUSB socket seems to be purely for power using the supplied cable – there is no data connection if plugged into a PC with either the supplied cable or a known good data cable. The menu nagivation pad is a little tricky to use with a slim silver ring for the movement and a big button for the select but given the size of the phone this is not surprising. It has a 3.5mm headphone socket and as normal the headphones double as the antenna for the built-in FM radio and using it via the earphones gives reasonable quality. The speaker however is very tinny.I’ve not put an SD card in to test out the MP3 player. It also claims to be able to play video although on the small, low resolution screen it’s going to be a bit naff I’d have thought. I’ll give it a go and report back.A few extra apps are included – calculator, calendar, alarm, torch (using the single white LED at the top of the case), world clock and stopwatch. There’s a games menu but you have to pay to unlock each game.It has a Bluetooth radio and paired easily with my desktop PC which it can use for the Advanced Audio, Handsfree Telephony Gateway, Remote Control & Remotely Controllable Device profiles so you should be able to use Bluetooth earphones or a speaker with it. It can also use Bluetooth file transfer to and from the SD card which I’ll test once I’ve inserted one. Multiple device pairing is supported. All in all so far it’s exceeding my expectations for the price.Update 2023-08-11:-With an SD card in I’m now able to send and receive files including MP3s between the phone and a Windows PC. The MP3 player works fine and I was able to pair a portable Bush Bluetooth speaker to get much better audio.

It’s only been a week, but the phones are great!Camera’s a little iffy in regular photo mode.. No better than my last phone which was 5 years old. However, the portrait mode is amazing! Love the quality! Even in low light, it’s great!I use my phone to take pictures, so it’s important for them to look good. I don’t use the flash or anything.I’m not big in selfies so I can’t really judge the front facing camera other than it does facial recognition as expected. The fingerprint reader is frustrating. It takes a few tries, but finally unlocks the phone. I’ve read this is a known issue with this phone. – A fingerprint reader on the side or back would be better instead this one is on the bottom of the screen.. If you don’t use the fingerprint reader to unlock your phone, this isn’t an issue. XDBattery life has been good. I charge it every other day. I don’t play any games so I can’t say how well the battery life is for that. I only surf the web and shop.I find the keyboard is better on this phone. Less “missed” button presses or wrong button presses. The sound is good. The phone gets quite loud if you need it to.There are a lot of different sounds to choose for the ringtone/alarm notifications/regular notifications. I don’t love most of them.. They’re all kinda sauntery and not very upbeat like I think a ringtone should be or alarm sound. Feels like for a child in my opinion or those that can’t handle loud sounds. I understand but this is a phone. I want to jump up if I have a call or need to be somewhere, you know?Anyways, the screen is quite good. Very nice colors. Oh and you can change the colors too if you’d like. It comes with a vibrant color option, but I turned it to normal. The other was too saturated and looked like the colors were bleeding. I did a quick change, not a thorough one like you can do.The flashlight has a few modes for brightness. I only use mine to help the cat find toys lost under the couch so I don’t need it super bright, but if you need it, it’s an option. :)I do recommend getting a screen protector and phone protection. The backing is plastic. I actually like this because it means the back is less likely to break. Yes, the phone feels cheaper and looks it, but with a case, you wouldn’t know. I also like the film protectors for the screen over glass. Again, it won’t get damaged as much as a glass protector would. – I would recommend this especially for kids. That being said we did have to return one phone after only 2 days. I think it was the membrane under the power button. The button got stuck pressed in and we were able to get it back out, but then it was loose and rocked back and forth. We returned it and purchased a new phone, exactly the same which arrived in 2 days. It’s just like the others. When you have a family that needs phones, you tend to get everyone the same.To sum it up, these are good phones, no complaints so far. It was easy to setup and add all my usual apps. However, if you need to reset the phone to factory, you need to setup a Samsung account to do so. I hear that Apple has a similar thing. (I’ve never owned an iPhone because of it’s restrictions.)Also, the phone does appear to have a micro SD card holder on the opposite side of the SIM card holder. I haven’t tried this yet, but will soon.

on a planet that a day lasts for 2 seconds this phone would indeed last 5 days, From fully charged to dead as a DODO is 3 hours 45 mins without using it at all, So unless you are a horse race commentator or you work selling cattle at an auction, and you have a very short message to convey, a phone with a 8 second talk time is ideal. So as you can see I have given it 1 star for each. “But why any if its that bad” I hear you ask, Well for the bare faced cheek and the laugh they must of had writing it’s capabilities, It isn’t even a good paper weight, still no hard feelings I just hope that at a time when you need to make an urgent call the good Samaritan that says ” here funny guy use mine” You better hope it’s NOT one of your poxy phones. oh and the reason it’s so hard to get the battery cover off it’s so no-one can see the size of your battery, if you think that it is a reasonable size I bet you where called some choice names at school. Thats it rant over sorry about the school thing but if your going to mug me at least tell me the truth first then we can all enjoy your wacky sense of humour.

Bought this for my daughters birthday she loves it, Fantastic phone for the price, although this outer case is made by plastic but it’s solid, decent battery life, the camera is ok and processor is quick enough. This device’s unique dual-sim functionality allows users to simply manage two phone numbers on various networks, giving them flexibility for both professional and personal use.You can play games with it and find pictures or go online, use YouTube, it has all the functions of a normal phone designed for adults. I would recommend this as a great cheaper alternative for your child as they can do everything on it.

Thing works 100% normally and seemed as new. Unlike another online retailer this phone performs perfect.

I bought the phone which says it’s unlocked in ad but having issues to get set up without old pin to get it started. How do I get past that? Phone in great condition otherwise
Elora3 –
I love this phone! I have never owned a Motorola, but have always had an Android phone. The operating system is great and has so many personalizations available! I could not believe the price of this phone and was wary of buying something that was used, but There was no evidence someone had held this phone before me, let alone used it! I even convinced my boyfriend to buy one! Battery life is so so, but I am willing to carry a charger with me just in case!
Jodiah Lundquist –
Does what it says on the tin but better. No issues whatsoever so far, and even if they come later in life it’s cheap enough to not fret over.
Dean –
It is what it is I suppose, it’s cheap and you certainly get what you pay for, very slow, everything takes at least 30 seconds to load, in my opinion should be about £10 as I have seen other phones far better for least 60-80 pound for budget phones and just not worth the money
Frankie 4Fingers –
Nice item
Kindle Customer –
Received it on time, with a new charging cord and adapter. Looks like new! Working perfectly so far. Battery charges slower than my s7, and I don’t think it lasts quite as long, but this may be normal–can’t say without having another s10 to compare to. Overall I am happy with it. The screen display is very crisp!
Amazon Customer –
This was just for my daughter to play games, watch videos, etc. Initial set up took longer than it should have. It lags so much she cannot do anything. I’ve been trying to use google for 5 minutes now and it says connecting to internet. Go into settings, it says connected but does nothing. Play store continues to say “try again”. Phone has been power cycled and checked for updates. It’s been connected to multiple wifi options including a hot spot and – it just doesn’t work. Settings have been checked and everything looks fine. Airplane mode is not engaged.
davybush –
The phone I received was less than £120. It is in terrific condition and I couldn’t see signs of wear and tear , even though it wasn’t advertised as excellent. The Samsung Note 9 is a top notch phone , despite being a few years old. I’ve always liked having the stylus . I can’t think of anything I’ve ever bought that matches the value of this . It is the second Note I’ve owned , but this one …I’ve bought a protective cover to look after it
Lindy Lou –
I bought this for my 4 year old granddaughter as always wanted to play games and watch films on my phone. She loves having her own phone and now she can play away with it on her little games and watch her cartoons and children’s films . I never got her a sim with it as too young for calling anyone it was mainly just for her to watch her favourite things on it . I think it’s a great first little phone that charges up well and great value for money. I’d highly recommend.

Excellent phone, well worth more then its sold for ,speaker has base on . Camera amazing ,and the phone runs really smooth 👌 absolute bargain (I bought the ellecent condition . Also unlocked to all networks so happy . )highly recommended to anyone looking for a cheap phone but wants all above .

Bought this because I got fed up having to carry around my smartphone all the time.Nice and compact phone and well worth the £14 I paid. Comes boxed with a charger and battery. I like these phones because the battery lasts a long time and they are quick and easy to use.It was a bit fiddly getting the back off to put the SIM card in, you need a flat knife to prise it off – it’s that tight.. but once it’s in the back snaps back in with no chance of it coming apart if you drop it. Made a few calls and it sounds very clear. Perfect combined with an unlimited talk and text for £4 a month. Very happy with it.

Looks brand new, works great so far. Needed to go to my koodo to get new sim card and everything is working good, nice upgrade from my s4 wich is now 9 years old and still working . Just can’t use most apps cause it’s too old

Best phone I’ve ever owned. Writing this review using it. Super fast the camera quality is amazing 👏 🤩 love it

For a cheap little Samsung, it does the job quite well. Only catch I would say is that the battery dies fast. Other than that, it works.
Alex James –
I bought this as an emergency replacement for my Samsung Flip, which had gone in for repairs.Incidentally, it was faulty (wouldn’t charge or switch on) but Amazon were excellent and did a free return and very speedy refund.I got a new one from Argos (exactly the same but new, rather than refurbished).Charging was slow. It took 2 hours to go from 49% to 100%.The set up was easy and without issues. However, it took 4 hours to load 20 apps from Google.Once loaded, I tried the apps and very few would work. Took forever to load and wouldn’t operate. So, I deleted off pretty much all of them to free up memory.Once I’d done that, the following worked fine – phone, text, Whatsapp, and Facebook lite.Nothing else would work. Google Chrome took ages to load and struggled with the scroll down, just freezing. Candy crush kept crashing – just a black screen.Google sheets was impossible. Tried to load but kept freezing and typing in words was 1 letter every 5-6 seconds.Needless to say, I have returned it to Argos.I realise that you get what you pay for but in this case, I really don’t think it’s worth getting as the smartphone aspect of it is useless.

Phone was in excellent condition! The price was worth it.
Sebastian Kialanda –
Excellent

One little scratch at the top of the screen and a nick near the charge port, both covered by the case I bought, and that’s the only way you could distinguish this from a new phone. Picked up my apple ID from my existing phone and cloned it with no problems, so far battery life is good and it worked with a Rogers SIM no problem. Took a few tries to get WIFI calling turned on but I don’t think that’s the phone.

Great mobile phone with everything you expect from an iPhone for so much less. The Alcatel 1 8Gb 4Gb offers app center downloads, fast internet speeds, a camera, Google Maps, email, streaming and so much more.It has plenty of file storage for day-to-day use though you might consider upgrading to the storage if you are going to be downloading music and movies to your phone. At just over £50 for this, the 16G 4G version would only be around a little more but still, a massive saving to make instead of the iPhone.

super easy to use. If you’re like me 19 and want to get off your phone, due to endless scrolling on Instagram or Snapchat or tiktok…etc. This phone is brilliant. it has exactly what you need to stay in contact with those close to you. Honestly have never felt more in touch with the world, life, nature, God.

Working really well

I don’t use face recognition or fingerprint reader so no comment..Very satisfied with the screen display and resolution. The only problem was the USB-C cable was faulty but I had another one, so no problem. The main thing is that, so far, the phone works great.
TyWinch –
I’ve been an iphone user for many years and I decided I wanted to try something new. This phone is replacing an iphone 12 and it works even better. I’ve had it for about a month now and I couldn’t be happier. Also it came in perfect condition. I can’t tell if it’s ever been used.

The media could not be loaded. This phone works but within a week it has randomly shut down twice now (at 75% battery level or higher) or gone to the Samsung Galaxy Screen and I have to reboot it. Very worrisome… will update as I continue using it.Edit: it’s doing this 3x a day now.Edit 2: it completely crapped out today. Will add a video. It’s pretty bad quality because I filmed using my kids iPad. Not sure how to wipe all my data with the screen like this before sending it back.. hopefully they refund me.

It has 100% battery level, no scratches on the screen or the back, but it has on the side, which it doesn’t matter cause what do you expect when you buy a used phone from Amazon. I had no problem setting up the phone. The Amazon driver did messed up my delivery though.

My relatively new Galaxy A54 5G I bought around a year ago decided it wanted to stop working (After looking into it, the A54 has a problem with the cable that connects the screen to the phone). So I went looking for something similar and stumbled upon Samsung’s S series line of renewed phones, and I am so glad I did. I may have only been lucky because I know renewed phones can be a gamble but the phone had no noticeable scratches or marks and hasn’t let me down. The FE edition brings a larger screen and larger battery which is why I went for the latter, other than that it seems to work smoothly and hasn’t had any issues with its processing speed.

This phone is worse than awful :D! My friend bought it to use with only one app. A banking app. It couldn’t even do that. It’s so slow to load anything it’s painful. Couldn’t pass the banks security checks because the camera can’t take a clear enough photo of anything. I mean even for a fiver it would be a waste of money cos you’ll just have to buy another :S. I told him/her not to get the cheapest one – you live and you learn..

I like the size of this phone, much larger screen than my previous Samsung, suits my fat fingers better. Downside, I like to keep my phone in a wallet which makes this one a little bulky when it’s booted up but can’t have it all. Battery capacity is good and doesn’t switch itself off till 2 or 3%. Has a good camera, very sharp and the second optic too which is a boon. Does all I want it to do, very contented with it.

After purchasing this product the battery life was very poor. Although it was a refurbished phone, I would have expected it to have a new battery put in it. Now having reviewed other buyers comments I see that this is a common problem with this product. The Description needs to be much clearer as to what has been refurbished.

Dopo mesi dall’acquisto risulta funzionare ancora bene. Spedizione veloce come sempre!

Come ho detto ottimo solo come telefono dà combattimento

Before buying the Z2 I tried an htc one M8 which I returned as I had issues out of the box with the notifications light not working and the Bluetooth connection with my Sennheiser headphones being intermittent. Not really satisfactory from a phone that costs over £500. Thankfully I’ve had no such issues with my Z2.This phone is very quick. With a top spec processer and 3gb of ram it should be. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, don’t worry. All you need to know is that it will run all your apps without stuttering or stalling at all whilst playing your music etc.The display is big and beautiful. Whether or not you want a phone this large is a personal choice, but if you make the leap from, say, an iphone, you will of course initally find it a little cumbersome. However, after a few days of use it feels comfortable in my hand and the upside is its generous screen which is great for watching movies and tv, using the net and social media etc. The colours really pop. You can easily throw whatever is on your Z2’s screen onto your tv with screen mirroring (provided it has the capability) and I’m really impressed with the quality of the resulting image. There’s a decent front front screen protector in the box, which I managed to apply without any air bubbles. It’s got a matt finish so minimises glare. You’ll need to buy a case or rear protector separately though. The walkman app is great. It should be- Sony invented the walkman. The sound quality via the headphone socket is very good. There is a decent graphic equaliser on board. The phone comes with noise cancelling headphones in the box which I’m also impressed with- the bass is impressive, they’re comfortable and the noise cancelling works very well, saving you the necessity of increasing the volume to compensate for intrusive background noise and saving your ears from from future hearing loss (I hope)… Also the phone paired with my Bluetooth headphones quickly and the signal is impeccable. My only gripe is that I think the headphone socket should be on the bottom of the phone, not the top, but its a pretty minor quibble and a subjective one at that. The internal stereo speakers are pretty good but definitely not as good as the htc one M8 at higher volume.I’m not a camera buff but other reviews of the phone’s photographic capabilities are pretty positive. It’s certainly pretty zippy and I like the dedicated shutter button which is in exactly the right position. Many features are customisable and as I’m using my phone more I’m changing things to suit me. The Smartconnect feature that allows you to decide in advance how your phone responds to key events (e.g. automatically playing from the walkman as soon as you insert headphones) is not just a gimmick, it’s genuinely useful. In fact I think that’s a key strength of the Z2- it seems well thought out so that everything works well for you, rather than trying to dazzle you with gimmicky stuff that you’ll never really use. It’s also worth mentioning that you can add a 128gb micro sd card to the 16gb of internal storage. That’s a lot of memory and a very good reason to choose this phone above previous models or, say, an iphone which will not allow you to expand the internal memory. I store all my music and other media on the card and haven’t suffered any delays or fails getting access as yet.Battery life seems very good so far, although I imagine it will deteriorate over time and it’s worth noting that you can’t open up this phone and change the battery- unlike the Samsung S5.One of the best features of the Z2 is the wireless charging capability. You’ll need to invest in a separate dock to take advantage of this which I think is a bit of a cheek (the official Sony dock is over £20 at the moment) but it saves you having to open up the protective cover for the usb slot, plugging in a lead etc- just pop it in, charge, grab and go. Really handy and worth the extra few pounds in my opinion.I love the minimal, slim design and the phone feels very sleek and premium despite its size, unlike the plasticky Samsung S series, the exterior being made entirely from aluminium and glass. Design is a personal choice though and you’ll have your own opinion. I would definitely recommend visiting a high street store for a hands on comparison before choosing. I also love the design of the htc one M8 which is perhaps more distinctive. However the M8 is not waterproof unlike the Z2 (and S5, though not to the same degree) so bear that in mind if you’re clumsy and prone to spilling drinks and dropping your phone. Again I think this is a genuinely useful innovation rather than a gimmick if you are a bit of a klutz like me.Overall I would recommend the Z2 if you want a truly premium Android phone that does everything and just works very well, with a fantastic display and lots of useful tech on board. If you’re really into your music then I would recommend it even more highly. If you find it a touch too large then try a Z1 compact or wait a few weeks/months for the Z2 compact to be released.

Took delivery on 10 May and gave 5 stars initially, but after 3m of use reducing to 4 stars. The lost star is because the flap covering SIM and micro USB socket won’t stay shut, mean the waterproof feature can’t be trusted.I rarely open the flap as have a cradle charger, but despite this the problem has arisen. I imagine that it will not be until a future model that the apparent design fault will be fixed. That said, other than this flaw I love the phone, but the flaw is disappointing. In case you experience call distortion : I experienced an important problem with the phone. When I made calls, my voice was badly distorted when the other person was trying to listen. It got a lot better if I switched to speaker phone, but still not very good. At first I thought problem must be at the other end, but ltested on several calls to different phones and left voicemails that I have listened to and definitely a major problem. Other than that I found the phone is great, so got replacement from Amazon. I found the problem with my voice being distorted happened again though, with the new phone. I therefore tried a different sim, reverting back to a Vodafone sim from the giffgaff (O2 network) I had moved to. This solved the problem, so looks like some kind of compatibility issue between the giffgaff sim and the Sony z2. The giffgaff sim doesn’t cause any problems in my old Galaxy S3… If you experience thisvtypebof problem, it is worth trying a new Sim before returning the phone.Overall review:Phone meets my expectations and a bit of a step up from my old Galaxy S3.Screen is great, with good viewing angles. Keyboard seems easier to use, though spell correction function does not seem to spot two words accidentally typed together without a space.Seems very responsive and also quick to get to grips with.Physical quality of the phone is way better than my old S3 (except for flap issue mentioned above). I was a bit nervous of how ergonomic it would be, but I needn’t have been. The tweaks done to shape and dimensions from the Z1 have done the trick, and in comparison it is much better to hold.Put front screen protector on from 3rd party, as only one came in box and I wasn’t lucky enough to get application right first time.I also get a protector for the back to help protect the glass. Pleased I did!The sound from the front facing speakers is pretty reasonable but not quite as good as I had hoped. Maybe I was expecting too much, but will be fine for audio to videos. On the charging front, I bought a cheap third party magnetic charging dock for under £9 and it works great. Would recommend one so no need to open the waterproof flap to charge every day – especially given the flaps are the only weak point I have found. The battery life seems good. For example, took phone off charge 18 hrs ago, had bluetooth and wifi on all day, made a couple short calls, being using email and about an hour on the Internet, followed by watching 2hr film stored on my micro sd and there’s still 25% of battery left. Pretty good and better than previous phones…]Overall, it seems to be a great phone, and pleased I waited for it. I popped my old 64gb Micro sd card in, but pondering over whether to buy and try the new 128gb SanDisk card… Will see.Couple of extra points: I saw a review just after mine that said you can’t write to a micro sd card. In setup there is an option to transfer data from internal memory to a micro sd card you have inserted. Also, you can switch to saving all photos and video footage taken to the micro sd. When it comes to music and films, I usually copy to a micro sd card inserted to my laptop via adapter, so unlikely to check if possible to copy across by USB lead. Consequently, I don’t really understand the problem raised by the person leaving one star earlier today. One warning though – when I tried the function to transfer files from the phone to micro SD , the function managed to corrupt many existing photos on the micro SD, so I suggest this function is avoided. So far really like the function where you can choose to blur backgrounds and keep the main subject in focus. It works surprisingly well. Photos in bright light are great, though dimly lit photos aren’t as good as expected. Videos are very good, including 4k ones, though when recording 4k the phone heats up a little, but not a problem.P.S. As I bought this phone because it was unlocked and sim free I have now found which sim only deal I prefer. I went for a giffgaff monthly deal that as at May 2014 cost £12pm for unlimited data, 250mins, and unlimited texts. It works on O2’s 3G network and so far I am very pleased with it. Just mentioning in case, like me, you’re looking for a decent Sim only deal. Update: see the call problem I have had with the giffgaff sim… Looks like I will have to give up with it and try a different provider. I ended up getting a Sim only 4g deal with unlimited calls and texts and 5gb of data and Spotify premium for £15pm. Going well…FINAL UPDATE: AFTER OWNING THE Z2 AND LIKING IT, IT INEXPLICABLY “DIED” ON ME.NO SIGN OF LIFE OR LIGHTS FROM IT WHATSOEVER. I used Amazon instant chat to arrange immediate return for a full refund. Now bought the Z3.
