Even on just opening the box I liked this laptop. I can’t quite explain why. I’ve had a number of laptops in the past and were always, I’ll get used to it.The lights on the keyboard are pale teal which can be dimmed or turned off. The wsad keys are transparent so they are brighter. I’d prefer if they weren’t but that’s just my preference they still look good.I don’t play AAA games, but some of the games I do play are running are sett to high and there are no issues, which I had occasionally before. The major let down for this laptop is that more difficult to be upgraded as there is only one m2 ssd slot. The reason for my marking it down. As an alternative I am using my spare ssd as an external drive and it’s working with only a few lagging issues especially for sims 4. I will put on to the c: drive which will resolve these issues.

Review for the HP Victus 15-fb0020na Ryzen 5 5600H Radeon RX 6500M 8GB RAM 256GB SSD:I’m very impressed with the gaming performance of this laptop. Out of the box, it works well but with minimal upgrades it’s even better.Firstly, it comes with a single stick of 8GB RAM, with a vacant slot. I added another 8GB so now also benefit from dual channel bandwidth.Secondly, the SSD whilst fast, at 256GB is rather small capacity especially considering the size of modern games. I replaced it with a 500GB one. There is room for a second M.2 drive (see picture), but the manufacturer has neglected to solder the actual socket for it, so cannot be used. A bit pennypinching. My replacement SSD already had Ubuntu MATE installed on it, along with games from a desktop computer. It worked straight away when I powered up the laptop, a real bonus. The games I like are Skyrim Special Edition (ultra graphics, stayed at 60fps), Train Sim World 3 (ultra, 30-40fps on London Commuter) and Fallout 4 (ultra, mostly 144fps sometimes dipped to 80).The screen is fine for my use case, only indoors anyway. LED backlighting for the keyboard is nice to have. The fan makes itself heard when gaming, but that is preferable to overheating. Not a problem for me.For the money, I am very pleased with this laptop indeed. My only gripe is that missing socket for a second SSD.EDIT: A week or so in, things are all well. I’d like to mention one possible limitation to performance, which is the discrete graphics card has 4GB VRAM. Lots of newer games recommend 8GB. Although they will run, you may experience periodic frame rate drops. I found this with Train Sim World 3.

Ok so still early days but so far I really like this laptop. I bought it for gaming while away along with upgrading to a speedy machine. I’ve tried a few games and they play fine, it’s fast to start up. Although the HD could be bigger I’ll play games off USB HD, the fan is noisy as other reviews have stated but in the omen settings you can set it to quiet, apparently it limits GPU and CPU to compensate but I’ve not noticed anything major while playing. I’ve thing to note is make sure it’s plugged in while playing as I didn’t originally and the battery settings throttle the CPU making games stutter and all round unresponsive. You can change that in settings though. My main gripe so far would be battery life is poor but I mainly plug it in anyway. I was really on the fence on this but so far at least happy I purchased.

Bought for my sons 16th. He is so pleased with it. There is no lag and he can play all his games on it, the graphics are fantastic and he complete his college work too! There’s lots of storage for all his coursework. He was able to set it up very quickly and would highly recommend it.
